Genesis Networks Adds Three New Third-Party Switching Centers to Occasional-Use NetworkTuesday, October 02, 2007
Broadcasters in Australia, New Zealand, and Miami Can Now Transmit Video Content to Locations Across the Globe
NEW YORK — Genesis Networks, a provider of next-generation global video transmission services, today announced that it has added three new third-party switching centers to its worldwide network for occasional video transmissions as additions to its extensive network of broadcaster locations and distribution hubs. Joining Genesis Networks’ global roster of switching centers are Telstra DVN in Sydney, Australia; Telecom NZ (Albany) in Auckland, New Zealand; and The Switch in Miami. Genesis is also building into the Azzurro switching center in New York.
Operated by telecommunications companies, the switching centers enable local broadcasters to connect and exchange video feeds with one another. When they join the Genesis network, the switching centers become additional gateways by which broadcasters and cable networks all over the world can transmit point-to-point and point-to-multipoint occasional programs such as sporting events.
“The switching centers in our network are very significant in the broadcasting world because they handle a huge amount of video traffic. They are virtual ‘meet me’ points for customers that may not require 24/7 connectivity but do require the flexibility of booking from various points all over the world at a moment’s notice,” said Jeremy Dujardin, vice president of engineering for Genesis Networks. “Each time we add a new switching center, we exponentially increase the value for customers by giving them a wider range of options for delivering their programming.”
Customers who access the Genesis occasional-use network benefit from the same dependability and high Quality of Service (QoS) levels of the company’s full-time backhaul customers that operate on Genesis’ distribution hubs. The following is a growing list of switching companies that participate in the Genesis occasional-use network:
AT&T Hollywood Video Hub, Los Angeles AT&T San Francisco Video Hub, San Francisco AVOC, Washington, D.C. Azzurro, New York (build in progress) Bell TOC, Toronto Bell TOC, Montreal BT Tower, London JCS, Jerusalem Madou Tower, Brussels NOB Cross Media, Amsterdam SERTE Tower, Paris The Switch, Miami The Switch, New York Telecom NZ (Albany), Auckland Telstra DVN, Sydney Torespan Switching Center, Madrid
