Genesis Networks Fiber Circuit Links ION Media Networks' Operations Center to Major Markets in New York and Southern FloridaWednesday, October 15, 2008
New York–Genesis Networks today announced that ION Media Networks Inc., owner and operator of the nation's largest broadcast television station group, has chosen the Genesis Networks fiber infrastructure to provide reliable and permanent connectivity between WPXN, ION Media's television station serving the New York market, and the ION network operations center (NOC) in Clearwater, Fla. ION Media Networks is also using the fiber network to distribute to stations in Southern Florida.
"When it came time to replace our existing lower-bandwidth Clearwater-to-New York connection, it was an easy decision to choose services provided by Genesis for network connectivity to our flagship station, WPXN" said David Goosey, senior systems engineer for ION Media Networks. "With its value-added network monitoring services, Genesis provides a solution that is completely turnkey and more streamlined than trying to develop and manage our own direct fiber feed."
The services provided by Genesis Networks for ION Media Networks include an ASI duplex fiber circuit that connects several ION Media facilities with the Genesis point of presence in Miami, as well as all required transmission hardware, application configuration, and a fully managed 24x7x365 ASI transmission service. The link supplied by Genesis Networks provides a secure fiber connection between the ION NOC and ION stations WPXM in Miami and WPXP in West Palm Beach.
"The fiber circuit we're providing for ION Media is a great example of the tremendous value we add for the stable, workaday connectivity required by media organizations with large numbers of local stations," said Paul Dujardin, president and CEO, Genesis Networks. "Consequently, ION Media now has a permanent POP on our network that enables it to tap into a vast global fiber infrastructure for reaching into new markets, as well as pulling in new content to enrich service offerings to viewers."
