News Channel Debuts Live HD Coverage with US Presidential Inauguration

NEW YORK — Sky News, a dominant news source in the United Kingdom, chose the Genesis Networks global fiber infrastructure as a provider to deliver parts of its high definition debut with live broadcast coverage of the United States Presidential Inauguration to Sky News Centre in Osterley from the United States.

As part of the Sky News’ coverage, Genesis Networks provided a quality managed solution using three protected and diverse HD fiber paths, allowing Sky News to cover a monumental event with unprecedented depth.  In addition to live video, fully protected data paths were provided to seamlessly support communications and corporate LAN as part of the solution.  The service provided by Genesis Networks included local digital access and trans-Atlantic long haul circuit connectivity, in addition to the monitoring and complete management of the feeds with on-site engineering support and high definition video transmission hardware.

“Genesis Networks was able to prove that HD over MPLS Fibre works and provides greater benefits with the addition of including RTS talkback and corporate data connectivity to give a complete end to end package,” said Lew Dias, Sky News Bureau Technical Operations Manager.  “Broadcasters in the UK traditionally have relied on satellite delivery for HD contribution but we can now confidently look to use Genesis Networks for future HD projects.”

“We are excited to be a part of this major milestone for Sky News as they continue to prove themselves a leader in news, taking advantage of the cutting edge services available in the world of digital video transmission,” said Paul Dujardin, President and CEO of Genesis Networks.
