French 24-Hour News Channel Expands Global Presence With Live Shots From Key Locations in the U.S. and Europe
NEW YORK —Apr. 28, 2009 — BFMTV, France’s leading all-news channel, has chosen the Genesis Networks global fiber infrastructure to deliver live broadcast news feeds from a variety of remote stand-up locations including Washington, D.C., NASDAQ? headquarters in New York City, and Paris.
BFMTV began working with Genesis Networks during its coverage of the 2008 Beijing Games, when the news channel needed a cost-effective and reliable means of providing high-quality video feeds from a standup location in Beijing. Today, BFMTV has a fulltime connection from their news bureau in Washington DC provided by Genesis Networks. Also, Genesis provides up to 20 live feeds per month from the U.S. to BFMTV’s Paris headquarters via occasional feeds. Genesis provides a daily connection from a stand-up position at the Arc de Triomphe in Paris, which offers a scenic live backdrop for BFMTV’s 30-minute morning and evening news programs.
BFMTV is currently implementing Genesis’ IRIS proprietary customer control software, which will enable the network to control its own bandwidth, routing, and scheduling of video transmissions. With IRIS, BFMTV will have the ability to book transmissions quickly and proactively in response to breaking news.
“As an all-news channel, we depend on our ability to act quickly and to deliver live news from the source. With almost 200 points of presence throughout the world, Genesis Networks is the ideal partner to help us expand our global reporting capabilities,” said Thomas Jumel, head of production at BFMTV. “The Genesis service has enabled us to harness the flexibility and consistently high quality of fiber transmissions, at a fraction of the cost of satellite.”
"In only three years, BFMTV has become a highly respected news source in France – due in large part to its willingness to adopt leading-edge transmission technologies," said Paul Dujardin, president and CEO, Genesis Networks. “We’re pleased that Genesis has played such a key role in helping BFMTV become a global player in the competitive world of 24-hour news programming.”
